Bloody Heart

Content Warning: This piece contains themes of heartbreak, emotional pain, and vulnerability. It explores feelings of unreciprocated love and the struggle to trust again. It may be triggering. Please read with caution.

I’m tired of bleeding—
Crimson red spills on the floor
when I give you my heart,
straight from my chest,
and you do not reciprocate.

You hold it close,
whispering that you’ll treasure it,
but you squeeze the life out of it,
until it slowly stops beating,
unable to bear the pressure.

Then you step on it,
push it to the ground,
making it hard to trust you
with my heart again.

But still, I find a way,
and once more, I give you my heart.

To the ones who gave their whole heart and were left bleeding — you’re not weak. You’re human.
Healing takes time, but it does come. You are not alone in this. If you’re struggling, please reach out. You deserve support, not silence. (Lifeline 13 11 14 / Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636)
