My favourite characters have always been the villains. When you say "villain," you think evil, horrible, destructive. But when I say "villain," I mean misunderstood, angry, hurt—and most importantly, human. You might think that makes me a bad person, and maybe you're right. Maybe I am the villain of my story. That would make sense, wouldn't it? Because over and over again, I find myself hurt and angry. Maybe I am the villain. But I’d rather be a villain than be nothing.
Not every villain is evil — some are just people who were never shown how to cope with pain.
If you feel like the villain in your story, you're not alone. You're allowed to feel hurt, and you're allowed to heal. (Lifeline 13 11 14 / Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636)
